Each
laboratory is equipped with one eyewash fountain. It is essential
that its location be clear to every individual in the laboratory.
When use of this safety device is necessary, time is of the essence.
One should not have to try to find it or ask anyone about its location.
The device is activated by pushing on the panel labeled "PUSH" as shown.

At
one of the two exits from each laboratory room, there is a safety shower.
Prominent signs indicate the locations. These showers discharge a
large amount of water in a very short time. They are intended for
use when an individual has been exposed to an extensive amount of a corrosive
chemical, or when a significant proportion of an individual's clothes are
on fire. The discharge is initiated by pulling on a chain. Once
started, the flow cannot be stopped. Since there are no drains in
the hallways, this will create a dangerous slippery environment. Obviously,
the use of these showers should be restricted to serious emergencies that
are not otherwise able to be managed. Like other safety items, the
locations of the showers should be known to all individuals in each laboratory
room. |
