Dong, Yaozu My name is Yaozu Dong; I come from China with a bachelor degree of E-commerce. The reason why I choose this course is I have to take enough credit in this semester, I am sorry to say that but it is true. I do not know a lot about this course, I am willing to learn and hope to gain something really useful in this class.
Jia, Yiran My name is Jia Yiran, a new graudate student from China. My major here
is Technological System Management concentrating in Educational Technology.

Before coming here, I was working in a children education company---Reader China Group, which is the only Chinese commercial agent of The Learning Company of United States. I work as a researcher and teacher in Research and Development Department. Our company commits to apply American education programs (such Dr. Seuss, Arthur, and Reader Rabbit series) to Chinese children’s education. Actually, the programs are software. They help develop child’s underlying thinking skills and creativity, while reinforcing important areas of the basic curriculum, such as reading, writing, and mathematics. Through months of research and application of the programs in kindergarten, I found that playful language, colorful animations and engaging sound effect provide a delightful environment for children to explore as they build their reading and counting skills. The more I contact those programs, the more deeply I realized that technology, not just computer, could set an attractive and interactive learning environment for students, which those traditional teaching model cannot provide. Knowledge cannot be perceived as a static entity to be delivered by teachers and absorbed through practice by students. In my opinion, Modern education should be interactive among teacher, student and technology.

Actually, I am not quite satisfied with using American programs to teach Chinese children, and the main reason is the culture differences. Many details in the programs are based on American culture, not fitting for Chinese children. The other reason is some educational ideas and methods are not proper in China. As we know, America always emphasizes the ability of students and there are a series of criteria for evaluating that; however, in China, a systematic structure of evaluation have not been built, so paper-test is still the mostly used method to judge students. Many parents are anxious to see the immediate effect of the programs on their children, especially a high score, but they do not care about any cultivation of interest. As a result, even though many education programs from foreign counties are very good and advanced, they became less useful in China since they need more time than Chinese parents’ expectation to achieve the effect.

Hence, my plan after graduation is to design a series of on-computer programs based on Chinese culture and integrated with American Culture, also they must match China Chinese English Syllabus and actuality of Chinese English education. They could not only increase the interest in subjects, but also help children get high scores in a short period.

My name is Joan Landgrover. I am currently enrolled in the MS Technology program to acquire my masters degree for my permanent NYS Certification in Education. I am a graduate of Dowling College, where I completed my undergraduate work in English, Education 7-12. Just after graduating in May 2003, I landed a job at the Middle Country Central School District: Centereach High School teaching English to high school students. This was a career path for which I had dreamed of; however, I had put it off for over 18 years. After my husband retired for the NYPD after 9-11-01, it was an awakening to us both. I could not put it off any longer, life is too short! I had originally pursued a career in Banking, after acquiring an associate degree in Business Administrations from Suffolk Community College and worked my way up through the ranks from a bank teller to management. Although it was a very rewarding career, I had yearned for "something more". Well, I got what I asked for, "s!
omething more"!! Thinking back, it was the "easy life", leaving the bank at 3:30, leaving your work at the door and coming back the next day to start another day. That was before I realized my dream. I now spend all my time both in and out of school teaching, grading and planning, but, I would not trade it for the world. All in all, I love what I do, with every tired bone in my body. I love every one of my students, as if they were my own. There are so many proud moments in the career of teaching. This is a decision I will never regret for a minute. (Well, maybe once or twice while grading those 3600 essays during Regents Week, but that's it!). This, along with EST567 another course I am currently enrolled in this semester will complete my degree and I will graduate in December.

Hello Professor and fellow students. My name is Karleen. I am in my final semester. I plan on graduating this December with an MPS in Human Resource Management. I am the Director of Training and Development for the largest non-profit on Long Island serving developmentally disabled children and adults. As such, I develop training programs (as well as train) for our staff members, the individuals we serve and their families. Many of our courses are provided in the basic classroom lecture-style format, workshops and seminars; though we have done several computer learning activities with great success. I hope to move the organization further along by utilizing the computer as a key learning tool.

After seeing this course listed as an elective for my program, I jumped on the opportunity to learn more. I look forward to meeting everyone this semester. Best of luck to all!

Smith, Christopher Hi, my name is Chris Smith, I am a 3rd year technology teacher in the Northport school district. I enrolled in the TSM Educational Computing masters degree program last year, I feel as though this program will help me expand on what I teach in the classroom, as well as open new doors within the district.
I recently started coaching both boys basketball and boys tennis at the high school, which has been a blast! I look forward to the start of this years season. On my spare time I enjoy exercising, reading, cooking, and a good game of lawn darts.

Looking forward to some interesting topics/conversation this semester.

Waszmer, Karyn Hey everybody! My name is Karyn Waszmer and I am a Physics and Astronomy teacher at Northport High School. My biggest fear with growing older is that I am not up to date with the latest technology. I do not want to be one of those teachers who solely uses an overhead projector for the rest of my career when better technology is available. Though I consider myself very technology literate, I have become aware that I do not know enough. My goal is to always stay one step ahead of my students and that is why I am taking these courses.
