Site Assessment #1 I wanted fun clip art to put on my web page so I decided to search for free clip art. I opened up Netscape and put in the URL the address http://www.webtaxi.com. The first search engine I used was Excite. I put in the key words "clip art"+free. The excite search found 33,620 documents about the topic I was searching. I started with the first 10 hits. The first site that came up was a very specific clip art document. As I scrolled down to the next few I noticed that some of them were very specific clip art topics. Some examples that were too specific were medical clip art, rail images (railroad & historical images), a site to make your own images. The following sites were not helpful to me in doing my web page:

• 3) http://celtic.stanford.edu/clipart.html

There were many sites that were very good for my needs. I wanted fun, bright, children's clip art that I could use on my web page and I wanted it to be free. There were three sites listed as HTML Reference which were excellent. The following sites were very helpful to me:

• 3) http://www.arcade.uiowa.edu/proj/webbuilder/clipart.html
• 4) http://www.yahoo.com/Computers/World_Wide_Web/Programming/Icons

I went to the first site that I listed above and hit pay dirt!!! I didn't ever have to leave this site because there were 36 links for me to explore.

The next search engine that I used was Yahoo. I put in the same keywords,"clip art"+free and Yahoo found a lot less then the previous search engine. Yahoo found 22 site matches. I started with the first 20 that were listed . I went to a site called ClipArt Universe because it sounded like a site with a lot of clip art. I was disappointed with this site. They had a few nice clip art pictures and backgrounds but not a lot. I was expecting from the name what that there would be an abundance of clip art. Another site that I didn't find helpful was a site called Design Shop. They seemed limited in their picture clip art. They did have a nice variety of backgrounds though. Overall, if I wanted to find some good clip art pictures I wouldn't go here. Another site that I found very limited was a site called Christmas Web. This site only had 5 clip art pictures to choose from. It was a very specific site but even though it is it still didn't have a big variety on the topic. I did find a few good sites on my Yahoo search of free clipart. One site is called Over The Rainbow. This site had over 3,000 different backgrounds. They had colorful backgrounds, solids, textures, etc. If you are looking for a background this is the place to go. Another good site that I visited was called Caboodles. This site gives you a variety of different clip art. The clip art was perfect for my web page because it was geared towards children. And lastly I found the same site on Yahoo as I did on my Excite search. The site is http://www.yahoo.com/Computers/World_Wide_Web/Programming/Icons. I found a huge variety of clip art at this site.
