NOVEMBER CRAFTS

**WEAVED PLACEMAT**
This craft can be done with children as young as 5 years old. Younger children will need help with weaving the paper in and out.

Supplies Needed

What To Do:
This month we are celebrating Thanksgiving Day. I chose colors for the placemat to be used that are generally used during this holiday. Remember, you can switch around the colors however you wish. First take your brown piece of construction paper and fold it in half. Start at the fold, cut a slit in the paper, stopping about one inch from the top edge and one inch from the bottom edge. Continue to do this across the paper making about 6-8 slits. Cut the remaining papers (orange & yellow) into strips. Weave the strips of paper in and out of the slits alternating colors. First over one slit, then under the next slit, until you get to the other side. If you started above on the first strip of paper then you start your weaving under on the next strip of paper. Repeat this until the paper is completely woven. When the whole placemat is filled up you can glue the edges of the strips of paper down to the main paper.

*OptionsYou can gear this activity to any holiday using the colors of the construction paper to go with the holiday.
You can also cut the strips of paper in wavy lines instead of a straight line
Another idea is to draw pictures on the squares of the placemat that go with the holiday you are celebrating (Easter-you can draw Easter eggs, Valentine's Day-you can draw hearts, Thanksgiving Day-you can draw turkeys etc.)
