General Information

BEG was founded in 1990 by Professors Pat Wright and Charlie Janson. Originally BEG focused solely on primate behavioral ecology. However, in recent years we have broaded our focus to include all types of behavioral ecology.

Friday, BEG members meet to discuss a recent scientific paper. Usually one BEG member leads discussion on the paper, with all member contributing their opinions and questions about the article. Each semester, BEG hosts a guest speaker from another university, who talks about their recent research.

Past guest speakers have included Sue Boinski, Ryne Palombit, Andy Sih, and Dawn Kitchen and Charlie Nunn. Funding for BEG and BEG events is provided by: the Stony Brook Anthropology Department, the Graduate Student Organization, and The Paleobiology Series.
