Map of bike racks around campus
Freewheel's home is on the campus of Stony Brook University. The shop is located in the Student Union basement, in a space called Club Alley (room 024). We will be holding open repair hours at least once a week. Read more about open hours here. Viva la bicicleta!!
Freewheel is registered as an on-campus student club. New members are always welcome!
Directions to our home:
1 . Enter the Student Union, and in the middle of the building there is a stairway inside an atrium. Go down to the basement.
2 . Head to the left, past the NYPIRG office. Our room, 024, is on the right. We are in the far back corner. Listen for the witty banter and mechanical noises.
See an entire bike be re-built from the frame up. J. Matt described the entire process in words and pictures here.
The Freewheel Collective is a non-profit, non-hierarchal group of individuals who are dedicated to aiding the local community with issues pertaining to bicycles and cyclists. Freewheel hopes to establish a working community bicycle shop which will repair donated and found bicycles, offer free and/or low-cost repairs and bicycle education programs. Freewheel also hopes to encourage and celebrate bike riding as an ecologically and economically sound form of transportation by organizing community rides and "Free Bike Repair" days. Freewheel aspires to raise awareness of the benefits of bike riding to the local community, whilst providing affordable or free bicycle maintenance.
