Sigma Gammma Rho Sorority Incorporated was founded on November 12, 1922 at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority became an incorporated organization on December 30, 1929. The chapter here at Stony Brook is the Lambda Tau chapter. There are more than 450 chapters across the United States as well as abroad.




In keeping with the ideals of the glorious founders, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated supports The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, The National Council of Negro Women, The National Urban League, The March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, The United Negro College Fund, and many other service organizations that promote community service to achieve greater community progress.
