Constitution and Bylaws 2001-2002

The Korea Student Association (K.S.A.) is a cultural organization at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. The purpose of the K.S.A. is to promote Korean awareness, unity and diversity amongst all the general student body. The K.S.A. is a voice in which students of all races and creeds may express their views, thoughts, and ideas of any matter pertaining to or focusing on students at large.

Article 1:The Korean Student Association
Section 1:Name given is the Korean Student Association
Section 2:Name given Korean Student Association is interchangeable with the initials K.S.A.

Article 2:Purpose and Objective of the Organization
Section 1:To promote social interaction among Korean students at the State University of New at Stony Brook.
Section 2:To promote the general interests and welfare of Korean students.
Section 3:To promote the exchange and interaction of ideas and culture between all students at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Article 3:Organizational membership qualifications and rights
Section 1:Membership is open and limited to any matriculated student at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Section 2:Full K.S.A. membership status is based upon but not limited to the following obligations: a)Participation and attendance in the majority of general meetings. b)Participation in the organization or performance in the annual Korean Night festivities. c)Participation in the organization or performance of at least one K.S.A supervised event or activity group.
Section 3:Privileges of full membership in the K.S.A. include but are not Limited to: a)Freely express one's opinions and thoughts on any K.S.A. related topic. b)The opportunity to declare candidacy for any officer position. c)Preferential pricing and benefits for all K.S.A. sanctioned events.

Article 4:Government
Section 1:All officers must be registered, fully matriculated students at the State University of New York at Stony Brook without exception.
Section 2:Officers shall consist of the following three groups which may be established within the discretion of the President: a)Cabinet b)Club Officers/Coordinators c) Coordinating Committees
Section 3:The Cabinet shall consist of: a)President b)Vice-President c)Treasurer d)Secretary
Section 4:The Coordinating Committees shall consist of: a)Publicity Coordinator b)Social Activities Coordinator

Article 5:Duties of the Government
Section 1:The President a)Will preside of all meetings. b)Foremost ambassador and spokesperson for the K.S.A. c)Must oversee all day-to-day organization and coordination of the K.S.A. d)Given the discretion to appoint officers and special committees and when necessary. e)Calls all general and emergency meetings. f)Final authority on all policy.
Section 2:Vice-President a)Assists the President in all meetings. b)Assumes leadership in the event of an absence or resignation of the President. c)Oversees the activities and operations of the coordinating committees.
Section 3:Treasurer a)Keeps financial records in their entirety for all K.S.A. related events, activities, and meetings. b)Solely responsible for the organization of all fundraisers. c)Monitors and maintains responsibility in all financial concerns and transactions. d)Responsible for proposing and creating a budget for the following fiscal year.
Section 4:Secretary a)Must keep accurate records and minutes of all meetings, events, and activities. b)Must repeat the weeks previous minutes at the beginning of subsequent meetings.
Section 5:Publicity Coordinator a)Must oversee that all K.S.A. events, activities, and meetings are made known and public. b)Must produce and periodically update a K.S.A. membership list which will be added to the organizational file.
Section 6:Social Activities Coordinator a) Must oversee and interact with members in all K.S.A. sanctioned events.
Section 7:Club officers are appointed within the infrastructure of each individual club, but only one officer can be chief officer responsible for the maintenance and coordination of their respective clubs.
Section 8:Term of office: a)Duration of all positions is one academic school year, which will equal a term; No officer will assume any position for more then one term. b)Officers assume duty on the first Monday following the election
Section 9:Elections a)Only full members are eligible to run for President with a Vice-President candidate as their running mate. b)To be eligible to vote a member must have participated in Korean Night (if held) and have been present for the majority of meetings. c)A candidate can be disqualified to run for election with approval of two-thirds of all cabinet members. d)Victory in the election is by majority vote with the President as tiebreaker.

Article 6:Amendments
Section 1:A proposal for an amendment to this constitution may be made by any member of the K.S.A.
Section 2:All proposed amendments must be seconded and then approved by at least two-thirds of all officers.
Section 3:All ratification of amendments require a majority vote by members in good standing of the K.S.A.
Section 4:Implementation of new amendments will appear on the revised Constitution for the following academic school year.

Article 7:Funding
Section 1:The K.S.A. is a Polity funded organization and all financial transactions must be followed per guidelines of Polity at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Section 2:All fund-raisers must be approved and coordinated by the Treasurer and President of the K.S.A. Section 3:Each of the following clubs are required to elect a chief officer to be their representative in the K.S.A.: a)Dorl Ah Reum Newsletter b)Korean Life 90.1 Radio Show c)DDKY traditional drum troupe d)CCKS e)Any other club wishing to be added must bring forth a motion at a general meeting a.Funding for these clubs will be made on an ad hoc basis based on eligibility and need. b.Non-profit groups cannot receive funding by a Polity funded group as per University guidelines.

Article 8:Meetings
Section 1:The following are required meetings that must take place during the academic year: a)Freshman Orientation a.Must be held before the third week of classes during the fall semester. b)A minimum of two general meetings per month must be held. c)Periodic officers meetings of a minimum of one per month must be held.

Article 9:This Constitution is hereby promulgated and established as the sole authority regarding the operation of the Korean Student Association at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Article 10:All Articles hereby provided in this Constitution are exclusively for the proper organization and coordination of the Korean Student Association at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Article 11:K.S.A. is an organization open to all students regardless of race, color, religion, sex, or sexual orientation.
