12/15/03 - The last meeting of the semester was a great success. I'd like to thank Adam Martin for giving a great talk and shedding light on all of the neat things that X11 can do. Good luck on your finals and have a great winter break. Keep your eyes on the website and the mailing list for news concerning Linux World which is January 21-23 at the Javits Center in New York City. If you plan on attending you can register here. It's free and a barrel of fun. So, register now!

12/02/03 - Our next meeting is Thursday, December 4th @ 6:30pm in the Computer Science building room 1211. Adam Martin is going to be giving a talk all about X Windows, the X11 protocol, and how it is used in a networked environment. We will have a local network set up to show some neat things about X11, so bring your laptop down if you like. The meeting will likely break down into just messing around with networking after his talk. A good time will be had by all.

11/06/03 - The screening of Revolution OS went really well. I'd like to thank everyone who was there for coming down. Pictures of the event are available.

11/03/03 - Our Revolution OS screening is this Thursday, November 6th @ 6:30pm in the SAC Ballroom B. This event will happen in place of our normally scheduled meeting, and our next normal meeting will be 11/20 at which we will be holding an install-fest. Come down to watch the movie, and be sure to bring all of your friends.

10/31/03 - Our mini-install-fest last meeting was a great success. We did 2 installs and helped one guy solve a few problems he was having. We also found a network connection that we can use. So, we'll now have a wired/wireless network that can actually get out to the internet at every meeting - woopie!! Expect pictures of the install-fest shortly.

10/26/03 - LUGSB's next meeting will be on October 30th @ 6:30pm in the CS building room 1211. We will be having a mini-install-fest, so if you want to get linux installed on your computer, bring it down to the meeting. If you need help getting your computer to the meeting, send Mark an email at MarkDrago@mail.com. We will also be finalizing our plans for screening Revolution OS. The screening will be held on Thursday, November 6th @ 6:30pm in the SAC Ballroom B.

10/15/03 - Our third meeting of the semester is this Thursday, October 16th at 6:30pm in the Computer Science Building room 1211. We'll be planning a few of our upcoming events including the showing of Revolution OS and an install-a-thon. Pictures from our last meeting have been posted.

9/30/03 - The second meeting of the semester will be held on Thursday, October 2nd, at 6:30pm in the Computer Science Building room 1211. The topic of the meeting is going to be 'Wireless Networking with Linux.' A wireless network will be available (802.11b / 802.11g), so if you have anything that can use it, be sure to bring it down. As usual, we'll have copies of Knoppix to hand out, as well as be able to help anyone wanting to install Linux.

9/19/03 - The first meeting of the fall semester was a great success. I would personally like to thank everyone who attended the meeting. We had 25 people in attendance, which was really great to see. Pictures from the Involvement Expo and from the first meeting are now up. We are planning on holding an install-a-thon next meeting (10/2/03), check here for updates.

9/12/03 - LUGSB's first meeting of the semester will be held on September 18th @ 6:30pm in room 1211 in the computer science building. Everyone is welcome to come!

9/7/03 - LUGSB would like to welcome everyone back to Stony Brook for the fall semester. We will be attending the 'Club and Organization Performance and Involvement Expo' on September 17th from 12-3 pm in the SAC Plaza. We have pictures of our table at last year's less boisterously named 'Student Involvement Fair'.

5/12/03 - Many updates have been done to the website (XHTML1.1, CSS) and the whole site is now table free, leaving all of the layout to CSS. Expect more changes over the next few months including RSS feeds, and places for member-written articles and reviews. I hope everyone has a great summer and I look forward to an eventful fall semester.

5/12/03 - Elections were held at our last meeting and those people mentioned in the previous post were elected to their respective positions. The positions will change on June 1st.

4/30/03 - A meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 7th, at 1:00pm in the Computer Science building room 1211. We will be holding elections for officers. Those who have been nominated are: Mark Drago for president, John Hover for vice president, Charles Wright for secretary, and Mike Graffam for treasurer. If anyone would like to make further nominations, they should be sent to the mailing list.

4/21/03 - A meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 23rd, at 1:00pm in the Computer Science building room 1211. Nominations for officer positions will be held.

4/21/03 - We are a member of the O'Reilly User Group Program. See ug.oreilly.com for more information.

4/16/03 - A Wiki has been added to the LUGSB Website. If you don't know what a wiki is, read this page about the WikiWikiWeb, or go straight to the Wiki.

4/8/03 - The next meeting will be held on Wednesday April 9th from 1:00 to 2:30 in the Computer Science Building room 1211. We will be coming up with ideas for upcoming events. This is also the place to bring any questions or curiosities that you have with Linux or free software.

4/5/03 - Pictures of the ICON install-fest have been added to the events page.

3/27/03 - LUGSB will be holding an install-a-thon at the ICON science fiction convention this weekend (3/28-3/30). Come one, come all to enjoy raffles, desktop linux demos, CD copies of distros, as well as installations. The install-a-thon is going to be held on Saturday night (3/29) in Harriman Hall room 104.

3/11/03 - The next meeting will be on Wednesday March 26th from 1:00 to 2:30 in the Computer Science Building room 1211. We will be discussing plans for the install-a-thon that will be held at the ICON Science Fiction Convention.

2/7/03 - Our next meeting will be on 2/12 in the computer science building room #1211 from 1:00-2:30. We'll be getting together to hang out, discuss current events in the linux/free software world, and think up ideas for future meetings. Come down and meet the members of lugsb.

2/1/03 - LUGSB will be present at the Student Involvement Fair in the SAC on Wednesday, February 5th from 12:00 to 3:00. We're asking those attending to bring any spare blank CDs that they may have so that we can hand out copies of knoppix (and others) to interested people. Come out!

1/23/03 - Our first meeting of the spring semester will be held on Wednesday, January 29th during campus lifetime (1:00 - 2:30) in room 1211 of the computer science building. A demonstration of playing DVDs on Linux will be given. All are welcome to attend.

12/29/02 - Long time no update. I hope everyone enjoys the winter break. We've got big plans for next semester.

11/23/02 - November 20th was the day that we had our first meeting. See the Meetings section for some minutes that I tried to remember 3 days after the meeting. :o)

11/18/02 - We are going to have our first meeting on Wednesday 11/20 @ 1:00 pm at Stony Brook University's Student Activites Center in room 312. We will talk about what it is our club is going to be for, and where it is headed. There will be CD copies of Knoppix handed out. A good time will be had by all.

11/5/02 - We are officially recognized as a club by the University. This gives us a bunch of privileges including the reservation of rooms and event advertising.

10/24/02 - I handed in the application for us to become a club. It turns out that the student activities office is going to be sending me something in the mail and once I receive it we can start holding meetings and all that jazz. Let's hope for a speedy delivery.

10/24/02 - I'm leaning towards holding our meetings every month on the fourth wednesday of that month during campus lifetime. I think this is the best time b/c I've only heard one complaint about campus lifetime from the members (there are 21 of us now). I chose the fourth wednesday of the month b/c lilug holds their meetings on the second tuesday of the month. This means that our meetings should happen approximately two weeks apart. This way we can all get our LUG fix twice as often without overdosing. :o) If there are any complaints about this time let me know now b/c it can still be changed.

10/5/02 - A few updates were made to the constitution. The new parts have been adapted from the LILUG constitution and the by-laws of Software in the Public Interest, Inc.

10/4/02 - We've straightened out all the positions of the officers. Please see the 'members' section to see who is where.

9/30/02 - I spoke with Prof. Zadok and he has agreed to be our faculty advisor. I am very excited. I think this is going to work out really well.

9/30/02 - I went ahead and wrote up a constitution. I tried to take out anything that has to do with a set membership. The idea is to make it easy to get things done. Let me know what you think. I want to hand it in to the Student Activities Office ASAP.

9/29/02 - I am going to speak with Prof. Zadok about being the faculty advisor for the club.

9/28/02 -I made up this preliminary flyer using OpenOffice.

9/25/02 - Prof Keitt responded and sent us the best of luck, but he can't be our advisor because he is now working at the University of Texas at Austin.

9/25/02 - I contacted Prof. Tim Keitt and asked if he would be our faculty advisor as he had showed interest in starting a lug on campus before.

9/24/02 - The announcement of the creation of LUGSB was sent to the SBCS Discussion mailing list.
