Stony Brook Robot Design Team

Please visit the following page for a collection of photographs from the 2001-02 competition: Robot Competition 2002-03. Also, visit Flash Presentation to get an idea about the competition and how our robot works.

The Stony Brook Robot Design Team was founded in November of 1996. The original team consisted of a core of 6 people. Those six individuals created the walking robot DAVID, which competed in the 1997 Walking Robot Decathlon.

In 2000-01 the Stony Brook team came in 3rd place in the international SAE Walking Machine Competition. Last year the team consisted of 8 core people, and others lending a helping hand as well. Composed of about an even numbers of returning members and new blood. The robot was named Bender II and was more agile, more accurate, and more robust than its predecessors.

This year's team is composed of about 20 people. Although the number of members have doubled so has our range of study including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, material science, and mathematics. The same design and overall idea will be used in this year's robot named Bender rev. 3 with some additions to the previous design. We plan to change microprocessors to a more powerful chip, add sensors, and increase our level or artificial intelligence this year.
