There are a number of reasons to do such a thing. These include:
- The Walking Robot Decathlon is an international event sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers. The competition commonly hosts competitors from Canada, the United States and Mexico. As a result, the competition offers a certain amount of publicity in and of itself.
- In the past, sponsors have invited newspapers and television agencies to view the projects that they have sponsored.
- A sponsor’s logo can be added to all documentation and stenciled onto the project itself.
- Finally, if a donation were to be made, SUNY at Stony Brook is a nonprofit organization and so there is the possibility of a tax write-off.
