Vegetarian Links
Introduction
If you're interested in becoming a vegetarian, there are links available here with arguments why becoming a vegetarian is a good idea. Broadly, there are three concerns addressed by vegetarian diets:
- Ethical concerns for humane treatment of animals - this argument rejects either factory farms or the concept of animal slaughter for human gratification
- Environmental concerns - This argument examines the vast ecological impact of fertilizers, pesticides, manure, growth hormones, and other chemicals on the environment
- Health concerns - there is a general consensus that eating vegetarian is healthier than eating meat. For instance, vegetarians live 2 years longer than non-vegetarians, on average
- Animal Rights and Vegetarian Ethics - Comprehensive list of questions commonly asked of vegetarians. See the List of Questions as well. About as comprehensive and level-headed review of vegetarian ethics as is available online.
- The Immorality of Eating Meat - Deep philosophical perspective on vegetarianism.
- Eating meat isn't natural - a site that attempts to show that humans aren't designed to eat meat. The anatomical support is a bit exaggerated, but there are some interesting historical and primate-related perspectives
