Elementry School Demonstration

Science and Technology night at Hiawatha Elementary School.

Christina Arisio and James Lovette draw a crowd with their demonstration.

Putting dry ice in soapy water makes bubbles from evaporating CO2.

The bubbles soon foam over the top of the flask

Balloons are blown up at room temperature then frozen in liquid nitrogen.  The cold temperature causes the air inside the balloon to contract into a small volume.  When the balloons are removed from the liquid nitrogen, they blow back up to original volume.  Great demonstration of PV = nRT.

Freezing Flowers in liquid nitrogen makes them become brittle.

The cold flowers can be crumbled or smashed into tiny pieces.

What a mess!

The children had a blast.
