Roth Ragatta 2002

The Roth regatta is an event held every year around the end of the spring semester in Roth pond.  Many clubs
and other organizations build boats and race them in the event.  Each boat must be made completely out of cardboard
and duct tape.  There is always a wide variety of decorated boats and interesting designs at the regatta.  The event is
not so much about winning as it is about having fun before the school year ends.

This is our boat cyclohexane.  The cyclohexane molecule adopts two conformations, the chair and the boat, hence the name.

Here Gerard put the final touches on our boat.

Here is just a few of the members who helped build the boat:

Back left to right: John Markiewicz, James Lovette, Jonathon Silverman, Mat Strum

Front left to right: David Morrow, Andrew Strum, Gerard.

Here we are getting the boat into the water for the first time.

In this picture we prepair to start the race.  Before the cannon is
fired, the two rowers must not be in the boat ant he boat must be
out of the water.  Once the race is started, the boat is placed in the
water and the rower placed in the boat.

We started out ahead in the race.

But soon another boat crossed in front of us and we hit it.

We didn’t come in first, but we didn’t come in last.

Most importantly we had fun.

We finished the race without sinking our boat!

Here a couple of our members pose with the boat.

There were many other interesting boat at the regatta too.

Here is a concept boat built like a giant hamster wheel with floaters
lining the outside.
