The Projects and Works of Yomi Badejo
I have always been aware that new media can and has been an effective way to inform society about various issues, events, news, and anything else that one wishes to inform society about. Also, it is nothing new to me that new media can have a role in influencing how people feel and think about things. In other words new media can shape a person's view and opinions.
However throughout the semester, I have realized that the unique aspect of new media is that it gives another perspective, or way, of informing people. If one were to read about something in a magazine or newspaper (print media) they would learn and acquire information about the topic of the article. However with new media, in addition to being informed, one can actually observe and "experience" the subject of the production. For a lot of people this has a bigger influence on their opinions and thoughts than traditional print media does.
During the semester I have also become more aware of the fact that it can be easier for one to express their thoughts or explain topics using new media. When using print media, it can be difficult to think of the words or sentence that will effectively express an idea. With new media it is possible to use pictures and images to convey an idea or opinion. The audience can then view and understand the subject of the work.
New media is proof there continues to be new advances in technology. New media has been able to develop and expand partly due to the fact that that different types of technologies have been developed and improved upon in recent years. This has allowed new media to become more widespread and commonplace.
In general, I believe that new media can be a very powerful medium in communicating a message or idea to society. It is also a good way to raise people's awareness about an important issue, current event, or concern that affects the world as a whole.
Overall, at the beginning of the semester I knew that new media was a very effective way of conveying a story or an idea. However while I was doing my various projects I began to find out how new media actually works. I also found out how new media can be used to inform society about a certain issue. As a result I realized that new media definitely can, has, and will continue to have a tremendous impact on the way that people receive their information.
