Dance Macabre, also known as the Dance of Death, is a genre of art that originated in the late Middle-Ages. It was presented as an allegory for death, the frailty of life. In the original dance of death, people from all social echelons were convened to dance along a grave to remind all that no matter where people came from death did not mind their wealth or success. I will try to encapsulate all of this in the dance of an old rag doll.
When the doll’s owner was young, she loved playing with her doll. The doll was her most precious possession. However, once the owner grew up, the doll was placed in the corner of a room and faded away from the owner’s memory. When the doll feels itself dying, it begins to dance while looking back on the past. Then, while contemplating its dead, it undergoes sublimation.
This project will use graphics, video, and animation to show the dance. Audio will consist of background music from a music-box and sound effects. A 3d model of a doll will be created like Sally in “The Nightmare before Christmas,” and other images will be created by illustration. The doll’s dance is similar to Emily’s dance in the “Corpse Bride.” Finally, in the scene in which the doll’s sublimation takes place, the doll will turn into smoke.
It is anticipated that the audience of this project would be the people who appreciates Tim Burton’s animated films.
