Computer Science Major

The Undergraduate major in computer science is designed to combine a liberal arts program with sufficient pre-professional education in computer science to prepare the students for graduate study or for a career in the computing field. The intent is to offer the breadth of education that will enable students to place computing in the prespective of an extension of man's intellectual power, while offering the depth of education required to understand how to utilize the power or computing.

Students will learn concepts and skills needed for designing, programming, and applying computer systems while learning the theoretical foundation of computer science. They will also have sufficient freedom in the program to pursue other academic interests in the liberal arts, sciences, and engineering to complement their study of computer science. Many students will be able to utilize the flexibility of the program to satisfy the requirements of a second major for the baccalaureate degree.

As stated in the Undergraduate Program Guide.
