movie slideshow collage

Throughout the duration of the semester in THR216 I have learned many techniques and gained the knowledge of using new programs to fulfill the visions I had set for each project. Before entering this class I had little to no knowledge of how to use programs such as Photoshop, IPhoto, IMovie, or Macromedia Dreamweaver. Each program is difficult to use without prior knowledge or a helping hand but with patience and a dedication to time I learned how to use each program. I was amazed at how many different things I could alter or adjust to create the overall project that I had envisioned. Over these past weeks I have learned to not take art with the sort of "what you see is what you get" type of approach. Many artists in photography or any artistic form modify their art incorporating numerous amounts of images into one. A picture definitely says a thousand words and each viewer sees each artistic creation with a different approach. Not only were in-class projects rewarding but so were the media events that I attended. At Museum of Modern Art in NYC I got the chance to view art exhibitions spread out over six floors. Artistic pieces of Alighiero e Boetti and Robert Rauschenberg were put on show. These two artists were embedded into my memory showing not only myself but viewers too that time and the world is inevitably changing. Alighiero e Boetti created an embroidered map of the world in 1989 where now many countries no longer exist or the name has simply changed and, Robert Rauschenberg displayed his art which he created using the technology of printmaking. My relationship to new media has changed throughout the semester not only in the appreciation of developed artist's exhibits, but with the knowledge that everyone has a different vision that they can successfully portray in their work of art with the right tools at their hands. For each project each program served as a tool with a vast amount of adjustments and alterations that could be molded into just about anything. The collage, slideshow, and movie are projects displayed on this website. Each of these tell a story or have a theme which was incorporated with media technology to do so. These projects took a lengthy amount of time, and without the use of programs such as Photoshop the overall finished project would not be the same. I have learned how much music can change the emotion of an artistic piece, sometimes telling the actual story which is displayed through images. In movies background music sets the mood and changes the feeling the viewer will have during certain parts. Music definitely is something that livens up something like a picture slideshow or a movie. I enjoyed editing and shaping each of my projects into the vision that I have created in my mind.  I am proud of each project that I created and I enjoyed using each program knowing that anything I wished to alter was right at my fingertips.
