The Seystertron Digital Synthesizer

The Seystertron is a simple digital synthesizer written entirely in Java. The source code is available under the BSD license. Enjoy!

Compatibility

The Seystertron should run without a problem with the Sun JRE 1.3.1 or better under Linux. I have not tested it on other platforms except Windows. I stated earlier that it does not work under Windows, but since then, I have managed to test it successfully. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the Seystertron becoming unstable after several minutes of use on the Windows machine I used for testing. You may get better results, however. Give it a shot!
Also, the Microsoft Java VM implementation will absolutely not work. Because of litigation from Sun, the MS JVM does not support the more recent sound and GUI APIs necessary for a project like this.

Quick Start

To get started really quickly, just press the play button. This will start up the catchy default pattern. From there you can tweak all the parameters to your heart's content! Thanks to my friend Robert Kipp for writing the default pattern. If you want to write your own pattern, take a look at the manual. Also, for the curious, here is a screenshot.
