where learning and creativity come hand in hand

Welcome to Visual Interpretation

It's my senior year in Stony Brook and I must say, my relationship with new media has changed quite a bit since I first got here. Before attending SBU I only knew how to type and perform basic Internet research. Computers were used for typing and the use of purchased programs. When the Internet was first discovered there were only about ten websites available, since very few people had computers let alone the Internet. Today, there are millions of websites and hundreds of functions for computers. Over the course of my education I have learned a lot, but I probably learned how to be the most creative from my Theater. 216 class, Visual Interpretation. I had to do many projects like making a collage, a slide show, a DV Video and now this web page. I have grown a lot since my first day of class. It must have been the many times I wanted to throw my computer out the window. However, if it weren't for all my frustrations I probably would not have advanced to the level I am at now. I have grown a lot since first enrolling in this class and I have learned to expand my mind into a more creative way of thinking about computers. Computers are no longer only used for basic tasks like typing. They have obtained a more complex purpose since technology took its turn in the 90’s and the Internet became popular. Billions of people everyday use the Internet to learn, communicate and explore worldwide events.  I realize the importance of learning how to use new technology and programs. It is important to realize that as a society advances as frequently as it does, it is necessary to continue to adapt to technological advances. I have obtained many kinds of skills with programs and digital technology that has changed the way I look at computers. I have learned that computer literacy will give you an edge in the job market, especially with graphic, audio, and video software.  Furthermore, as society becomes more technologically advanced we begin to rely on computers more and more. If education is one of America’s most fundamental priorities, we must all adapt to the new forms of communication, entertainment, and research methods in order to continue to succeed as a country and as individuals.
