Presentation #1

In this presentation by Manuel Proissl he talks about his interaction, interest and transformation from a study in Physics to Screenwriting, Directing and Producing for Film.  Employed by Paramount Pictures, he lectures to the class about introducing motion pictures and optical illusions, referred to as Persistence of Vision, in which numerous snap shots of images are played to make the illusion as if it is being played.   Hannibal Goodwin invented film, incorporated with this idea of moving images or moving “freeze frames.”  In history during the late 19th century, film was only used to represent only purely visual art but did not tell stories; with the 20th century beginning, stories were starting to be told and scenes were combined starting with silent movies then increasing to speech, music, sound effects, then colors; in increase in the industry of film.
Continuity Style a technique used even today were basic cinematic strategies used such as storyboards.  As the screenwriter writes the script and photographer prepares with lighting, the director, sponsors and actors are found for the production ultimately leading to the editing in Post-Production and Distribution.  Manuel, as a screenwriter, describes his job as a composer using the principles of music to create his work; when writing, corresponds the principle of creativity of the story, which may be original or adapted.  Screenplays also contain shot headings, directions, dialogue and transitions in his writings.   The One-Vision principle means that everyone in the cast and crew must follow the Director’s vision on what he sees and wants to portray wit the story and create and make alive his vision.
