Tablet Showdown

Apple has been one of the leading companies on the forefront of new technology. Every year they release new products like iPhones/iPads. In 2015 they released the iPad Pro, the 12.9 inch model, but last year in March they released a 9.7 inch model. The iPad Pro has been one of the most sought after tablets. Does any tablet match up to the performance of the iPad Pro? Well, this year, Samsung has released its own contender that can compare to the iPad Pro.

Samsung has launched a new tablet recently, the Galaxy Tab S3. It is the upgrade to the Galaxy Tab S2. It comes in just two colors, black and white with an all glass design (Samsung) while the iPad Pro has a semi-matte metallic finish. Compared to the iPad Pro, the galaxy tablet lacks a little in the color range. The iPad Pro has a choice between gold, rose gold, space grey, and silver. Both the iPad Pro and the Galaxy Tab S3 are pretty thin and sleek. The S3 tablet’s new brighter and better screen gives you the ultimate viewing pleasure. The screen also has HD video playback. The screen is 9.7 inches in diameter across just like the newer 9.7 inch version of the iPad Pro. The tablet comes with an S pen good for physically handwriting notes or doodling on your favorite applications. With the iPad Pro, you have to buy a separate stylus. Keyboard covers can make both tablets feel just like a laptop.

Some of the greatest features included in Samsung’s new tablet is the battery and the cameras. The Galaxy Tab S3 contains a 6,000mAh battery. Samsung claims that the battery can last up to 12 hours of video playback. The front camera is 5MP while the back camera is 13MP. This is great for taking those selfies or even pictures of random geese. The iPad Pro also claims around 12 hours of usage on a single charge. The iPad Pro also boasts of a battery life of up to 12 hours. The iPad Pro camera also has a 5MP front camera but with a 12MP rear camera which gives you lower quality pictures, but there is not much difference. Both tablets have the LED flash.

The processor and operating system on the Galaxy Tab S3 are no joke. It contains a Snapdragon 820 processor. The S3’s CPU is 18% faster than the S2 while the graphics are three times faster (Samsung). The Galaxy Tab S3 also contains a Vulkan API graphics (theinquirer). It has 4GB of RAM with 32GB storage. The storage can be upgraded with a microSD card up to 256GB. The tablet boasts of having four speakers, one at each corner, so you’ll always be able to hear no matter how you hold the tablet. The iPad contains Apple’s A9X processor with 2GB of RAM. The iPad Pro also has four speakers at each corner of the tablet.

Overall, both tablets are very similar. It all comes down to preference and price range. The iPad Pro 9.7 inch model runs for 600$ with the base of 32GB storage. You’d also have to shell out extra money for the Apple Pencil if you want a stylus. If you want to use the iPad as a laptop, you’d also have to spend money on a keyboard cover. Since the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 has not yet been released, there is no word of price yet. However, you do not need to purchase a separate stylus since it comes included with the tablet. You do need to purchase a keyboard cover though. Keep in mind that since the Galaxy Tab S3 runs on the Android OS, there is more room for customization than on the iPad Pro. Neither of the tablets are waterpoof but they are pretty sturdy. They can take a few falls without completely falling apart(recombu). Both tablets come with a fingerprint sensor. In the end, it is all up to one's preference.
