Welcome to NSBE:

What is NSBE?

NSBE is the acronym for the National Society of Black Engineers. It was founded in 1974 by six African American undergraduate students, Anthony Harris (first president), Brian Harris, Stanley Kirtley, John Logan Jr., Edward Coleman and George Smith. In April 1975, the first national convention was held with 48 students representing 32 schools and the following year NSBE was incorporated as a non-profit organization.

Since then, NSBE has grown to more than 15,000 members, with 17 high school chapters, 268 collegiate chapters and 50 alumni chapters with our headquaters located in Alexandria, VA. Every year, NSBE has over 2,000 elected positions, 12 regional conferences, and one national convention hosting over 5,000 students. NSBE is the best place to find many opportunities for academic excellence, professional development, leadership training and access to many scholarships and internships.
