What is ODE?
Omicron Delta Epsilon is the international honor society in economics. Applications to the Stony Brook chapter of ODE are handled through ODE chapter of Stony Brook and the faculty advisor for ODE, Professor Zweig. ODE Natioanl Website is located at http://www.cba.ua.edu/~ode/
Why should I be interested?
Admission to any academic honor society tends to reflect quite favorably upon those who join both professionally and academically. Membership is noted on one's official transcript, and it is often regarded as an impressive and salient feature on resumes, graduate school applications, scholarship and grant applications, etc. Those inducted into ODE are entitled to a membership scroll plus two free issues of the American Economist.
What are the steps of memberships?
There are two steps of membership:
- Provisional Membership
- Full Membership
What is the difference between them?
You become a provisional member by joining ODE. When you fulfill National and Local Chapter Requirements, you attain full membership. See below.
What are the requirements for joining ODE as a Provisional Member?
You must have a cumulative as well as Economics GPA of 3.0/4.0,atleast U2 standing, and 2 Economics courses to join the local chapter and become a provisional member. Once you fulfill the above requirement then you can work towards earning points to become a full member. Points can be earned by attending General Body Meeting, Tutoring Students, Organizing events, presenting undergraduate thesis, and serving as a board member. Once you complete your National and Local Chapter Requirements, you attain full membership.
What are the service requirements to attain full membership?
As with any honor society, there are certain criteria to be fulfilled in order to attain full membership. These are specifically outlined below. There is also a one-time $30 membership fee paid to the National ODE Chapter. (SUNY Stony Brook Chapter does NOT receive a share in the membership fee. Our budget comes from USG.)
The necessary materials must be submitted to the ODE Advisor's mailbox or to ODE by the posted deadline. Instructions are provided below:
Membership requirements are divided into two categories, one a national set of requirements established by Omicron Delta Epsilon; the second set established for the Stony Brook Chapter.
