Connecting To MySBfiles Using a Web Browser on a PC
View/Save Access to MySBfiles | Read-Only Access to MySBfiles | Back to MySBfiles
PC - View/Save Access to MySBfiles
METHOD 1: Open as Web Folder
-
Open Internet Explorer
-
On the File menu, click Open. . .

NOTE: Web DAV not only allows you make a connection over HTTP, but it also allows you to have view/save access to MySBfiles. There are several third-party Web DAV client software packages that you can purchase to use on Windows, such as WebDrive at: http://www.webdrive.com/products/webdrive/index.htm,
but these examples will demonstrate how to use the Web DAV client native to Windows XP. -
Be sure to check Open as Web Folder and in the space provided, type the following URL and then click OK:
https://MySBfiles.stonybrook.edu:8443
-
You will then be prompted with a logon prompt.
Just enter your NetID username and password and click OK.

-
Once you are logged in, you'll see a view similar to the following. You have the same access to your MySBfiles as though you mapped a network drive, although it will be somewhat slower. Although possible, it is not recommended to edit files directly through a Web DAV connection though, due to the latency inherent in the connection.

METHOD 2:
-
Open My Network Places.
-
Once opened, click Add a Network Place.
-
Click Next.
-
Be sure to select Choose another network location and click Next.
-
Type in the following address in the space provided and click Next:
https://MySBfiles.stonybrook.edu:8443

-
Type a name you wish to use for this network place and click Next. A shortcut will be saved in My Network Places which you can easily reference again in the future. By using this shortcut, you can bypass this wizard should you ever wish to reconnect in the future.
-
Click Finish.

-
You will then be prompted with a logon prompt. Just enter your NetID username and password and click OK.
