Perform validation of a modified non-prewhitening matched filter (NPWE) model observer
using human observer experiments. Observer performance was determined by imaging the
CDMAM 3.4 contrast detail phantom for mammography using an amorphous selenium flat panel
x-ray detector for digital mammography. Additional research focus is on the development
and characterization of a hybrid detector concept using cesium iodide coupled to
avalanche gain amorphous selenium to produce an x-ray detector capable of quantum noise
limited performance at low x-ray exposure.
