About Us

BIGSCE Workshop

Secure Decisions and Stony Brook University, with R&D funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), are offering a free workshop for middle-school (and early high-school) students. In this workshop, we cover ...

  • Privacy and keeping safe on the Internet
  • The nature of cyber crimes
  • Cyber security professionals, and how they solve those crimes
  • Heroes in cybersecurity and STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics)
  • Fact and fiction in television and movies about cyber security
  • How to prepare for a career in cyber security

To drive home these lessons, we have students work in teams to create a branching interactive ("choose-your-own-adventure") graphic story about solving a real-life crime. Students will be working with Comic-BEE, a novel platform (funded by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate) that simplifies and accelerates the creation and delivery of interactive educational materials for cyber security.
